Quotes to Live By 1

I'm starting a new series of blogs. They will consisted of quotes--quotes I would like to remember, live by, and think will help anyone throughout life. I am sure there will also be short excerpts too -- in addition to just quotes. Cheers to my new project.

Quote 1:
One night of sadness is not worth forfeiting a day of peace and happiness. JJR

things to remember.

Remember that nothing lasts forever. This knowledge will save you many tears and disappointments. Remember even the best day, the most perfectly pleasant, can end badly and bitterly. This knowledge will eventually stop you from getting carried away in ephemeral bliss. Remember that you can fully control no one and nothing. This knowledge will keep you from believing that your personal expectations will be materialized. Remember that you can only know yourself and that even your own entity can at times be perplexing to comprehend. This knowledge will make you aware that you can never fully trust another person's love for you -- you can never know how faithful or how hurtful that person will be toward you. Remember that you are not in total control--remember that your intentions alone will never be enough no matter how noble they are. This knowledge will lead you to tread with caution. Remember pieces of your heart will inevitably be chipped away. This knowledge will numb your aches and ameliorate the weak and tender spots. Remember no one can love you more than you can love yourself. This knowledge will toughen your skin and your mind. Remember you are weak so that in that knowledge you may become more keen about appearing strong.

Certainty is Always Uncertain

I feel an anxiety to have something I thought I already had, but had forgotten I had. I feel the nervousness of starting something new and the bittersweetness of seeing something pragmatically and realistically for the first time--something that I now realize I interpreted with naivety. JJR

Success

In order to succeed you must have a clear vision of what you ultimately want, you must understand there is no easy way to get there, you must be willing to work very hard and at times do the seemingly nearly impossible to continue on the right path towards your goal, when you are close to defeat you must remember never to allow yourself to be defeated. Finally, more than even believing in your ultimately goal, you must believe in yourself for whether you reach the goal or not rests in your confidence in yourself--in believing in you and you alone. And at that point you must believe you are the best, that no one will surpass you, that no one will ever defeat you, and that you can do whatever it may take until you reach what or where you want. Though others will defeat you at times, it will be in a mere battle, it will not be absolute defeat, and you must know that because you are undefeatable. If and when you arrive at your ultimate goal prepare to begin again--again on yet another journey toward fulfillment. The strongest can never let ambition die--without it there is not enough push, not enough drive, not enough strength to make it. And to make it is what you want.

REMEMBER

When things are low, bad, or too busy remember you just don't have the time to be blue. Remember there is no time to cry or speculate. There is no time to let yourself sink lower. The only option to to work and move on to a better place. Sedative sadness is an impossible luxury.

SENSE

I wish I could just walk about with my eyes closed and nothing to guide me but my scent, my sense of touch, my hearing, and the breeze blowing smoothly through my hair.

The Beginning

The first words, the first look, the first smile, and the first feeling of excitement and thrill were many days ago -- years ago. Since then some parts have changed, have grown, have strengthened, or have weakened. Some parts are more honest and others more hidden. Like all that makes our world, this too has undergone change. Change is always constant and always present. Only change is truly reliable. My hope is that change will ensue for the better, for the stronger, for the more honest, for the more happy -- regardless of the past and regardless of the present. The key is not merely to endure change. The answer is not to sit back and hope. One must confront change in full armor. One must pack ambition, determination, strength, and discipline beside awareness, understanding, and passion. Then one must take these weapons to battle and fight with skill and knowledge --- and above all else one must secure love and take care never to lose sight of it --- never to leave it unprotected --- never to let it fall or be stolen.

-----------------------------------------------

The day you are born change begins, the battle begins, and the journey toward the end never ceases. The day you are born, you begin to wither for youth is always at the mercy of time and time never stops.

the world

The town is grey nearly every day if you do not color it the way you really want. Some things you cannot change no matter how hard you try. Some things you just cannot control or mold. Some things are their very own color. Those things you cannot change despite of intention or will.

Present.

The reason the full brightness and goodness of the present always looks dimmer and more mediocre is because the mind is too preoccupied with imperfections of the past and the risks of the future. Happiness is not in the past or in the future, it's right here.

Beauty

We are what we love. In many ways, in everyway we strive to be what we admire and adore. These are human beings' most significant characteristics. Our every goodness comes from our desire for the truly beautiful...from our desire to be like that person or material which we interpret as precious.

Simplicity

Simplicity can bring much more peace and happiness than elaborations and embellishments can. Thus, simple truths and actions are the real sources of happiness. To strip yourself of embellishments is to find peace beyond that which you thought you possessed surrounded by the decorations of your character and your life. How wonderful it is to let go and to know you are more free than you ever imagined to be.

A Mirror

She felt no desire to write and no desire to live. She felt tired and an abyss of loneliness within her. Everything was crumbling—everything was always crumbling…in her mind. The castles of her psyche and her spirit were as immaculately pristine as they were irreparably shattered. She was alone. As she tasted the sourness of the emptiness consuming her soul from within, she felt the gripping tightness in her throat and recognized the emotion that loneliness made her feel. It was all more than words could tell—it was her. In the end, she is always alone.

Motivation

It is too sad that we cannot infiltrate people with the fierce motivation we wish they could have...we know they would have...we know they will have. It is sad because we are able to love and what hurts those we love hurts us in our most fleshy and tender crevices. The truth is...whether it be unfortunate, or as I think it, fortunate...motivation comes from you. You are its sole maker. It cannot be bought, borrowed, or bagged...and good motivation can't even be broken; it cannot even be bruised. It can be bolstered only by your own faith in you--only in self begotten form is it real, raw, royal, resistant, and rebellious to the degree necessary for its subsistence.
Devise a reconnaissance of yourself and find motivation where it may lie--where it may lie caged and hungry for battle within you. Know what you can do and summon the source slumbering within you to do it. Let your fears fly.

Inspiration

Inspiration is everywhere. It is in a child's smile and the kiss of first love. It is in the joy of genuine innocence and in the excitement of lustful novelty. Inspiration blooms within us. It is the ability to perceive our own emotions and allow them to translate into bouts of whimsical and catalytic inspiration. Let it infiltrate your spirit. Let inspiration fuse into the veins that encapsulate your blood and make the saline sense of you become sweet with faith in tomorrow.

My Wise Friend Said...

My wise friend M. said something rather brilliant today, "Happiness is always an option."
In a world where stressors can so easily attack us and blur out perspectives with regressive fog, just remember that happiness is painless and always available. Although it comes naturally to us to think of the problems in our lives and the traumas that cut through out flesh and burn in our souls, we must make a magnanimous effort to remember the good --for it is the good that makes life worth living. In the end, it is the good that keeps us sane in this sea of psychosis.
Sometimes we just have to stop and ask, "Why be sad, when being happy is painless?"

What is Love?

Well, isn't this a funny question.
If in movies, fairy-tales, and literature we are taught that love should be the effortless and nearly magical joining of two souls, does this not set us up for disappointment? Considering the many factors and lessons to be learned through the journey of loving, it is unfair that love gets portrayed so artificially in all that we see and read. Love is about trials, risks, mistakes, memories, tires, joys, moments of unexplainable bliss--as well as unexplainable anxiety. Love is the tears if sorrow from our eyes and butterflies of joy and anticipation from the pits of our stomachs. Because love is constantly portrayed as a thing beyond us--beyond our control, our desires, our wished, and our circumstances--it is conflicting to believe and know that in our daily lives love is actually all of these things. This reality can make us feel abnormal when in fact it is completely reasonable for love to be a grand conglomeration of everything and nothing at once. The truth is that the only thing that forever marks love's existence is endurance--our perseverance in the belief in what we share with another person, our hope in the relationship we create with another for that relationship is a child that must be nurtured and fed each day. It cannot live on without our faith and care--without our constant effort to keep is, not only alive, but flourishing and growing, it cannot survive. Love is what we make of our relation with another person. It is merely that which you and the other person decide it should be. Love is not something that falls down from the sky and lands on our soul so that we forever see the light of the world through another person's eyes. The love you have and the love you lose is a product of what YOU, and the person you chose to create love with, make. The realization that we have much more control over love than that which is portrayed in the media, movies, and books, can give us the strength we need to create the kind of love that makes us stronger than what we can ever be on our own--the kind of love that is well worth the work, the energy, the time, the hope, the believe, the self-sacrifice, the perseverance, the fortitude, and the genuine humanity that we invoke to create it.
